Savannah Morning News Restaurant reviewIt's difficult to believe anyone could leave Moe's Southwest Grill and still be hungry. If nothing else, you can fill up on chips and salsa. Born in the Atlanta area, Moe's already operates more than 40 franchises in six states and continues to expand. The popularity is understandable. The menu features fresh ingredients and family-friendly dishes, such as burritos, tacos, fajitas and salads. My favorite part of the place is the music, most of it from the '60s, with the Beatles, Motown and other good-time sounds. Vegetarians will be particularly happy with Moe's. Most dishes can be ordered with tofu instead of meat, and the kitchen does not use lard or animal fat. The names on menu items will draw a laugh or a snicker, but only if you've got some sense of cultural awareness. For instance, tacos are named The Full Monty and The Other Lewinsky, while kids can choose from Puff the Magic Dragon, Moo Moo Mr. Cow and Mini-Me. On a recent evening, my dinner companion and I started with chips and queso dip, followed by an Alfredo Garcia, chicken fajitas; a Full Monty, a beef taco; and a Sherman Klump, a cheese quesadilla. Burritos are large and filled with extras, such as cheese, guacamole and sour cream, depending on which you order. The guacamole, available as a side or a dip, was chunky and tasty. The food was all freshly prepared, but the meats (chicken and steak) are lacking in spice. It's fairly bland Mexican food, but there is a hot sauce stand with four or five variations that can liven up the meal. Several items are served with chips. Drinks include tea, soft drinks, beer and wine margaritas (lime and strawberry). STEPPING OUT
